The much a waited McDan Ga-Adangbe Peace and Unity Cup got off to an exciting start yesterday with Chorkor mauling Dome Kwabenya 4-0 at the McDan La Town Park.
A brace by Enoch Aryeetey and late strikes by Man of the Match, Ishmael Nortey, and substitute Shadrach Neequaye were enough to secure victory for Chorkor as Dome Kwabenya has been eliminated from the competition.
The tournament, fourth in its existence, is set to take place across three venues in the Greater Accra region. This year’s competition has been expanded to 24 participating community teams from the 16 that featured in the 2020 edition.
At stake for the winner of the event, held to promote peace and unity in the Greater Accra region ahead of the 2024 General Election, is a GH₵10,000 cash prize as well as a trophy and medals.
The first runner-up will receive a GH₵5,000 cash prize and medals, while the third-place team will receive GH₵3,000 and medals.
