Calls for Kwasi Appiah to resign unjustified-Jerome Otchere

Philip Otuo

Calls for the resignation of Kwasi Appiah from the Executive Committee of the GFA following the AFCON Morocco 2025 draw in which Sudan (the team he coaches has been drawn against Ghana in group F) have no justifiable basis.

This is why. The very architecture of Ghana football is set on a conflict of interest premise. Those in it see nothing wrong with the structure but it is incongruous with modern corporate governance ideals. I hold that as long as we keep the present arrangement, we must also accept its patent attendant ills without complaints.

For, who within our present football circles has the moral authority to call for the resignation of the former Black Stars coach who doubles as an Executive Committee member of the @ghanafaofficial? Kwasi Appiah is also an Interim Management Team member at @AsanteKotoko_SC.

I’m not saying I find the conflict Kwasi Appiah put himself in when he decided to contest the GFA Executive Committee election last year appropriate nor is it my view that the potential conflict of interest case at the time and now is right, corporate governance-wise. It’s not.

My position is we should all know, unless we want to pretend that, the current governance structure of Ghana football which has existed from 2005 is a recipe for everything that defies basic corporate governance practices, wisdom, principles, ethics, etc.

If Kwasi Appiah should resign the whole Ghana football setup must also be disbanded. Otherwise, let’s continue to put up with the conflict-of-interest-ridden governance structure.
