The Ghana Para-Powerlifting team has arrived in Paris, France preparing for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games which is slated for 28the August to 8th September, 2024. The team made up of three athletes, two coaches and one team leader, made their way to France after partaking in the World Para Powerlifting (WPPO) world championship held in Tbilisi, Georgia where two athletes Isaac Obeng and Patricia Nyamekye won gold and bronze medals.
Training camp is to afford the athlete the opportunity to have better training regimes to help Ghana attain medal in the August Games come this September
The team is in Gennevilliers with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, France Embassy in Ghana and the Mayor of Gennevilliers.
The three member team includes : Tahiru Haruna, Isaac Obeng and Patricia Nyamekye all athletes. The coaches are Prince Nyarko and George Ohene Adu as well as Majeed Eldeen as team leader.
The face of Para Sports in Ghana has seen a huge upliftment since the Current President Samson Deen took charge injecting financial support in activities such us periodic administrative enhancement, technical assistance, training programs for athletes holding international competitions in Ghana for Para athletes to gain classification into the international Paralympic system(IPC)
Under the leadership of Samson Deen and his current board, Ghana hosted African Para Games in 2023 separated from the normal African Games.
